Carey Cemetery, Dawn-Euphemia, Lambton, ONT, Canada

Notes: Also known as "Cary" or "Kerry" Cemetery. From "Cemetery Project" on Carey Cemetery:
Maintained by* Township of Dawn-Euphemia. In 1970, trustees decided that some action needed to be taken in regards to the sadly deteriorated burial ground. Many of the older stones were also broken. At that time they repaired four monuments, levelled off the ground and erected a new memorial. At that time a record of all the burial were made and placed in the Euphemia Township office. It is difficult to reach this cemetery because it is located some distance from the road, with a couple of creeks to cross. The cemetery is located between the Fansher and Bilton lines. This cemetery is hard to get to because you have to walk in a cornfield for about 25 mins then cross a small creek, walk up a steep hill, then turn left and follow the bank for about 10 more mins, then you can see a fenced in area that has the remaining stones. This cemetery is located on the original property of Captain Kerry (Carey). Captain Kerry was leader of the local Militia during the time of the Rebellion of 1837-38, having settled in the area around 1830. In June of 1838, Captain Kerry was killed and was buried on his farm in what is now known as Carey Cemetery. Over the years, other members of his family, as well as neighbours were buried here.
