      Martin E. Fitzmaurice, 75, pioneer native Vallejoan and retired Mare Island navy yard employee, died in the Pioneer hospital at Escalon, near Modesto, Sunday afternoon, according to word received here yesterday. He had been employed for 35 years as a watchman at the navy yard before his retirement two years ago. He was the son of the late Garrett and Julie Fitzmaurice, early residents of this city. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Maybelle Lanning; two grandsons, Donald Moss, U.S. merchant marine, and Robert Moss, UFAAF; seven nieces and nephews, Mrs. Mary Oliveira of Salida, Mrs. Joseph Souza of Modesto, Joseph M. Avila of Modesto, John and Louis Avila of Vallejo, Edward Avila of Grizzley Isle, and Frank Avila of Woodland, and two cousins, Miss Mary Dixon and Thomas Dixon of Vallejo. Funeral services will be held with a requiem high mass in Modesto tomorrow morning, following which the body will be brought to the Chisholm and Dickey funeral home where Samoset tribe of Red Men, of which he was a member, will pay their last respects Wednesday night. Burial will take place Thursday morning in the Benicia Catholic cemetery with Rev. J.J. Walsh, O.P., officiating.
