  from "The Cuba Patriot", 10 Nov 1887 (fultonhistory.com) DEATH OF ELIAS P BENJAMIN Died, in the town of Allen at the residence of his son William, Oct. 11, 1887, Elias P. Benjamin, aged 88 years. The funeral took place Oct. 13, and was largely attended. A very able and consoling discourse, delivered by Rev. F. M. Alvord of Friendship, from Job 1:21, reference being had to Timothy 1:48 the latter having been selected by the deceased. Mr. Benjamin was born in Northumberland, Saratoga county, Jan. 22, 1801. About the year 1827, he with his parents brothers and sisters removed to Belfast, Allegany county, where he spent the most of his life. Soon after arriving in Belfast he married Mary Pettis. Eleven children were born to them, three sons and eight daughters, of whom three sons and six daughters survive to mourn his loss, the mother having died nine years ago.
