  from "The Times Herald", 24 SEP 1973 (findagrave.com) Clifford R. Smith, 70, died Saturday in Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was born Oct. 18, 1902, in Cottrellville Township. He never married. He was employed many years by Merrill Plumbing, Marine City. Mr. Smith is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ruth Duceatt, St. Clair. The remains will be in Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Marine City. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery, Cottrellville Township.
