Notes - From Ethel Baker
Grandfather Hill kept a dry goods store in Knowlesville, then went to Medina in the milling business. He owned a large farm near Millville and being a hearty eater, enjoyed the produce he would bring home. I have heard Mother tell of the huge baskets full of vegetables and meat he would deposit in the kitchen and give orders for a big dinner. No doubt as a result of this good living, he was very portly and died of Bright's disease August 22, 1871, when only fifty-three years old. He died before I was born but I remember a very large portrait of him -- I think it was crayon. He was a handsome, stern looking man with beautiful hands.
From The Medina Tribune, 24 Aug 1871 (www.fultonhistory.com)
We are pained to announce the death of our esteemed townsman Robert L. Hill, which occurred at his residence in the village, on Tuesday afternoon last, after a brief illness. Mr. Hill had not been in good health for some time, but had been about attending to active business until Sunday last. He seemed to have a presentiment that he could not live long, remarking to a friend as he was going to his mill on Saturday that he would not be with him much longer. He died with Bright's disease of the kidneys.

We saw at Gaylord's Photograph Gallery a few days since an excellent life size protriat of the late Robert Hill, of our village. The work was done by our townsman, with India ink, and is executed in the most artistic style.
