Superintedent Of Textile Mill Dies In Hospital
A Lockport textile designer, prominent Mason and yachting enthusiast ,J. Everett Emerson, 67, of 770 East Ave., superintendent of the Niagara Textile Company, died early today in Lockport City Hospital after an illness of three weeks. Born in Lockport Nov. 6, 1879, Mr Emerson was the son of Jerome E. Emerson, a native of Bergen, and Mrs. Grace Dunlap Emerson, a native of Lockport. Mr. Emerson first entered the textile business at the Niagara Textile Company in 1898. A short time later he enrolled in the Philadelphia Textile Institute. Following his graduation he was employed in textile mills in Connecticut before returning to the Niagara Textile Company 45 years ago. Long interested in sailing, Mr. Emerson wa a life member of the Rochester Yact Club. He donated the Emerson Trophy which was competed for by sail boatsmen of the United states and Canada. A past master of Red Jacket Lodge, 646, F&AM, Mr. Emerson was a member of Bruce Council, Royal and Select Masters, and Genesee Commandery, 10, Knights Templar. Surviving are his wife, Miriam; two sons, Fred N. and Jerome E. Emerson; a brother, Fred E. Emerson, all of Lockport; two sisters, Mrs. Leslie D. Croxson, Town of Lockport, and Mrs. Bradford L. Sherwood of Appleton. Service will be held Sunday at 3 o'clock at the Prudden Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St. Burial will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.
