President of Polk Savings Office Dies of Heart Attack
DALLAS, Ore., Dec. 10 - Laird V. Woods, 61, president of Polk County Federal Savings & Loan Association, died at his home in Dallas today of a heart attack. Although still active in business circles, he had been in ill health for several years. Woods was a life long resident of Dallas where he was born Feb. 19, 1895. His father, Irv Woods, was Southern Pacific agent here for many years and his grandfather, Dr. Laird V. Woods, practiced medicine here during the town's early days. Woods attended Dallas High School and the University of Oregon before enlisting in the National Guard during World War I. After participating in three major offensives in France, he was wounded in action. Following his discharge he returned to Dallas where he was married to Marie Griffin. Woods was employed by the old Dallas National Bank and then by Dallas City Bank following merger of the firms. In 1937 he joined Polk County Federal and founded Woods Insurance Agency. He served on the Dallas School Board for many years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving in addition to the widow are sons, Kenneth and Robert J. and four grandchildren, all of Dallas. Services are pending at Bollman's Funeral Home in Dallas.
