Dorothy Fitzmaurice McJenkin entered eternal rest at 11:20 a.m. on January 25, 2014. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last August. She was the beloved wife of Gerald McJenkin, mother of Lisa McJenkin and Tori Schladen, and grandmother of Matthew and Michael Schladen, whom she adored. She was born on Valentine's Day 1930 in Redwood City, CA and attended schools there and in Woodside, CA. She was raised by her aunt, Edna Norton after her parents divorce when she was 2 years old. She graduated from Sequoia H.S., Redwood City, in 1947 and then on to U.C. Berkeley. She graduated in 1951 and was awarded a Phi Beta Kappa key for her academic excellence. When she was 17 and a freshman, she met the love of her life and future husband, Gerald McJenkin in a speech class. They became engaged and married on July 1, 1951, soon after she graduated. Their marriage lasted 62 years. They lived in Sacramento, San Diego, Hacienda Heights and Laguna Hills. Dorothy was a speech pathologist and during her lengthy career, worked with all age groups. She was a specialist in assisting people who stutter. There are many people who have benefited from her expertise in helping them attain better communication skills. Dorothy was an avid gardener. She was especially proud of her grove of redwood trees, and kept them adequately watered so they could survive in arid Orange County. She loved to read and take walks by the oceanside. Dorothy formed friendships that lasted a lifetime and was beloved by all. The world lost a terrific person, a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be treasured forever. Funeral Service will be at 10:00am on Saturday, February 1 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Aliso Viejo.
