A telegram has been received here announcing the death of Rev. John Woods at Urbana. The new came as a great shock to his friends, as only three weeks ago he preached in the Presbyterian church here. Rev. John Woods, D.D., of Urbana, O., died very suddenly at his home on May 6, in the eightieth year of his age. He was an earnest and devoted minister of the gospel, whose wise and evangelical articles have often appeared in the columns of the Herald and Presbyter. He was born June 19, 1938 in Hamilton, O., graduated at Miami University and Princeton Seminary, and was ordained in 1961 by the Presbytery of Oxford. His charges were at Urbana, O., Bloomingburg, O., Ninth Church of Chicago, Ill., Fort Wayne, Ind., Chico, Cal., Cedar Falls, Ia., Andrew Church of Minneapolis, and Merriam Park Church of St. Paul, Newark, O., Luddington, Mich., and New Carlisle, O. He served as chaplain in the Civil War, and for a time was professor of mental and moral science at Macalester College. He was a man of ability and great usefulness in a long and consecrated life.
