Clarence Raymond Woods, son of George W. and Clara Duncan Woods, was born April 29, 1887 in Clarke County, Iowa, and passed away Oct. 6, 1963 at the Clarke county hospital at Osceola at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 7 days. As a boy he attended the rural schools in Madison and Clarke counties. After his mother's death, he spent several years with his Grandmother Duncan, going to school in Neosha Falls, Kans. After working a few years in Kansas, Nebraska and Manitoba, Canada, he moved to a farm in Green county, Ia. There on March 4, 1910, he was united in marriage to Abbie Roberts. To this union were born nine children. Four daughters, Beryl (Mrs. Orel Bales) of Grand River; Georgia (Mrs. Raymond Timan) of Pomeroy; Mary (Mrs J.A. Payne) Marana, Ariz.; and Maxine (Mrs. W.F. Kessler) of Odebolt; and five sons, Raymond T. of East Molne, Ill.; Clarke of Waukegan, Ill.; Dean D. of Ames; Clark R. of Great Lakes, Ill.; and Edgar of Virginia Beach, Virg. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great host of relatives and friends. In 1917, the family moved to Montana where they homesteaded for 6 years, living in a sod house. The four oldest boys were born there. In 1923, he and his family moved to Southern Iowa, where they farmed in Decatur and Clarke counties. Since 1948, he has made his home in Murray, where he served as Mayor for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl and Orville and one grandson. Services were held at the Murray Methodist chruch, Wednesday, Oct. 9. Rev. Tome Harlan officiated and burial was in the Murray cemetery.
