Mukwonago, Wis. - Orren C. Perkins, 65-year-old janitor, was suffocated by smoke today while fighting a fire in the grade school building with a small hand extinguisher. Perkins discovered the fire in a partition between classrooms on the second floor of the two story brick building as pupils were going to classes. Smoke filled the upper classrooms rapidly and Perkins sounded an alarm. Firemen found Perkins almost unconscious in the dense smoke. He collapsed as he was led outside. Taken to his home he was pronounced dead by a physician. The cause of the fire was not determined immediately. Damage was estimated at $1,000.
