Mr Amos Baker, a veteran teacher, died in this city yesterday at the age of 87 years. He was actively engaged in teaching for over forty-five years. He began in Dorchester, and taught in schools in Cambridgeport and Charlestown. He afterward established and carried on the Chapman Hall School in the city. He was a deacon in the West Church, under Rev. Charles Lowell's pastorate, as well as under that of doctor Bartol. Many of his scholars, as they gathered yesterday about his bed in the hospital, look fully as old as he.
