Dr. William T. Baker, 71, physician of Oak Cliff for many years, died Tuesday morning at his residence, 1329 Canterbury Court. He had practiced medicine in Dallas since 1906, formerly living at Midlothian. He had been an active member of the Dallas County Medical Society many years, filling the office of president in 1920, as well as serving on the staff of Parkland Hospital. Dr. Baker was born Jan. 9, 1864 in Lancaster, the son of William Thatcher Baker and Emily Beeman Baker. Both families came to Texas before the Civil War. His direct ancestor moved from Ohio down the Mississippi River then by tedious stages overland to Dallas County about 1835. Moving to Hamilton in his school days he grew to manhood there and later engaged in the mercantile business in Brownwood. He was a member of Oak Cliff Christian Church. He married Nannie Key, daughter of J. P. Key of Jonesboro, on Jun 13, 1886. He is survived by his wife; a son, Otwell S. Baker, both of Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. Coleta B. Williams; a granddaughter, Turner F. Williams, both of Tulsa; three brothers Dr. C. C. Baker, Hamilton; Norton A, Baker, San Antonio, and John B. Baker, Dallas, and five sisters, Mrs. Angie Nicholson, Hamilton; Mrs. Hettie Shannon, Fort Worth, Mrs. Jane Edgar, Hamilton; Mrs. Margaret L. Mathis, Lometa, and Mrs. M. A. Boone, Dallas. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Lamar & Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Cliff Cemetery.
