Excerpt from Methodist Church, of Corning, A historical discourse preached by Rev. A.N. Damon, Pastor of the Church, on Sunday, July 23, 1876
It has been only a few years since a minister might remain longer than two years on the same charge. The first minister was Joseph Pearsall, receiving his appointment to the old Circuit from the Genesee Conference in 1832. This brother, from the commencement of his ministry, labored under embarrassment, owing to a severe sickness, from the effects of which he never recovered. He labored for more than thirty years in the active ministry. It was said of him, that few were more laborious or more successful. In 1860 he was transferred to the Rock River Conference, but soon after found his health not improved by the change, and returned to the East Genesee Conference, resuming his work with the earnestnest and efficiency of former years. But soon thereafter, his superannuation was necessitated, because of failing heslth, and on the 22d of September, 1865, he died. His name and work will long be remembered.
from "The Troy Daily Times", 26 Sept 1865 (fultonhistory.com)
Rev. J. Pearsall, of Dansville, Livingston county, committed suicide on Thursday last, by throwing himself into a well, during a paroxysm of insanity. He was taken out within a few minutes, but had received injuries of such a character as to produce death within a short time.
