  from "The San Jose Evening News", 15 Feb 1919 BROWN FUNERAL MONDAY The funeral of Mrs. Johanna Brown, widow of the late Fire Chief William D. Brown, will be held Monday morning. The remains are at the Monahan undertaking parlors. from "The San Jose Mercury News", 17 Feb 1919 BROWN - In San Jose, Cal., February 14, 1919, Johannah C Brown, relict of the late William D Brown and dearly beloved mother of Catherine E. Richards, Johannah M. Hindel, Virginia M. Kenyon and Georgina L. Brown, a native of County Kilkenny, Ireland, aged 73 years, 3 months and 26 days. Friends are invited to attend the funeral today (Monday), February 17, 1919, at 9 o'clock a.m. from the new residence funeral parlors of Thomas Monahan, 293 South Second Street, thence to St. Joseph's Church, where a requiem mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul, commencing at 9:30 o'clock. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
