  from "The Oswego Palladium Times", 10 Feb 1989 (findagrave.com) Word has been received of the death of Lois (Metcalf) Austin, 76, a former resident of Oswego who died Jan 29 at her home on Locust Drive, Voorheesville. Mrs. Austin was born in Oswego and was the daughter of William and Sarah (Copeland) Metcalf. She taught in Voorheesville schools. Mrs. Austin was connected with the family owned Austin Beauty School Inc. in Albany. She was past commissioner of the Cosmetology Accrediting Commission in Washington, D.C., a member of the National Association of Accredited Cosmetology Schools. She was the widow of John W. Austin. She is survived by a son, two daughters, a brother, Leonard C. Metcalf. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Oswego.
