  from "Michigan, Deaths, 1867-1897' (familysearch.org) Mary Durkee, a 79 yr widow, born Vermont to Steven Wood resident of Vermont died on 13 Dec 1895 in Paw Paw MI of pneumonia. Recorded on 6 Aug 1896. from "The Paw Paw True Northerner", 20 Dec 1895 Mary Wood Durkee died Friday, Dec.13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. M. Buck. She was born in Pittsford, Vt., April 14, 1816, and when a small child moved with her parents to Lyons, N.Y. A few years later they moved to Knowlesville, N. Y., where she was married to Walter Durkee, May 15, 1833. To them five children were born, four of whom are now living. Tho oldest, Mrs. Caroline Gremps, died nearly two years ago. Mrs. R. M.Buck or this place, William Durkee of New Mexico, Mary and Walter Durkee of this place are her surviving children. In 1853, with her husband and family, she came to Paw Paw, where she resided until her death. Her husband died in 1866. Early in life, they occupied a prominent place in social and church circles; her latter years were devoted to her family cares, she being the most devoted of mothers. Kind and helpful to all, charitable and sympathetic, she passed peacefully away, leaving none but sweet memories with mourning friends. Tho funeral was held at tun house Monday, conducted by Rev. J. 11. Rennie.
