      Our esteemed friend and townsman, Hon. John W. LaBar, celebrated his seventy-ninth birthday yesterday, Sept, 5, at his residence just east of the city. There were present - Mr. John W. LaBar and family of Royalton, Mr. Harry Cudaback, wife and daughter of Porter, Mr. George Sprague, wife and daughter of Albion, Mr. C.W. LaBar and wife of Lockport, and Mrs. Ira Baker and son of Cambria. All of his family were represented expect Mrs. J.P. Robens and family of Fort Scott, Kansas, whose absence was regretted by all present. The event was on to be pleasantly remembered by all who partook of the festivities of the occasion, and forms a bright spot in the decline of a long and useful life.

      Hon. John W. Labar of Chestnut Ridge, was 80 years of age yesterday. A pleasant family re-union celebrated the event at the homestead. Amoug those present were Mr. Labar's children, Mr. John W. Labar, Jr., Royalton; Mrs. Rubens, Kansas; Mrs Sprague, Albion; Mrs. Cuddeback, Youngstown their families; also invited friends. The occasion was a most joyous one and a proper tribute to the head of the family and a respected citizen.

      Death Claims Another Pioneer
      The funeral of John W. LaBar, age 89, one of the oldest and best known farmers in Niagara county, who died yesterday afternoon at his home on Chestnut Ridge road, town of Royalton, of old age infirmities, will take place Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with burial in Chestnut Ridge cemetery. The Rev. F.I. Stultz of the Royalton Center M.E. church will officiate. Mr. LaBar was born in Saratoga county in 1832 and came to Niagara when a young man. The family firest lived in Cambria and South Ridge before located in Royalton. Mr. LaBar was a farmer all his life. He retired about fifteen years ago. During the past eighteen months he had been confined to his bed. Surviving are three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Edward Case adn Mrs. Bert Ketchum of New York city. Mrs. Dr. Alfred Jackson of Albion, Willis of Rochester and Burt at home; also one brother, C.W. LaBar of Cambria.
