  from "Hyde Genealogy, or, The Descendants, int eh Female as Well as in the Male Lines, from William Hyde" He was a merchant at Hartford in early life. But after his marriage he settled as a farmer upon the farm which had belonged to his ancestor, the first Richard Ely of Lyme, and which has been in the possession of the Ely family nearly two hundred years, on the east bank of the Connecticut river, in Lyme.
