Charles Treat Hubbell '18
Hailing from Port Carbon, Pennsylvania, Chuck Hubbell lettered in football for four years and captained the team his senior year. He was part of the famous Red Raider backfield which devastated its opponents with 22 victories, 6 defeats, and 1 tie as Colgate's football prowess became universally acknowledged. Hubbell was the backfield quartet's fleet-footed outside runner, pass-catcher and blocker. His career highlight had to be Colgate's upset 15-3 win over the Fighting Illini of Illinois, previously undefeated for three seasons. Hubbell was an athlete-plus. As a senior, he was both president of Phi Kappa Psi and of the student body. He was also manager of the Glee Club. After graduation, Chuck Hubbell never forgot his Alma Mater. He served on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Corporation 1950-53, and was selected for a Maroon Citation in 1955. In 1968 he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award. Married to Margaret Mulford, they have a daughter Carolyn (Carrie) H. Grant. During World War I, Chuck served in the United States Navy. Throughout his working life, leadership he exhibited as a Colgate undergraduate.
