Rebecca Benjamin Scott was born in Belfast March 7th, 1838, and was married to George Scott Sept. 10, 1857, and lived in this town, on what is known as the Scott farm till the decease of her husband, about 11 years ago, after which she made her home for the most part with her younger son George. Latterly ill health led to occasional visits to Mt. Clemens for the benefit of the baths, from which point she went to her son Charles, in Fremont, O., some months ago, at which place she passed away, Thursday, Sept. 25, 1802 [1902], aged 66 years. The special [e.g. specific] disease which troubled her was rheumatism, which finally attacked the heart. As she lacked nothing which kindly filial affection could supply for her comfort, at all times, so in her last illness, nothing was wanting which medical advice and unfailing care could furnish. These considerations serve to comfort her surviving friends, notwithstanding that she suffered greatly before the final release came. The George Scott home was noted among acquaintances for its untroubled happiness and genial hospitality, and the qualities which secured these happy conditions, in the prosperous home days, made her declining years as peaceful as can well fall to the lot of mortals. As Friendship had been the family home in the past, her remains were brought back, to rest beside the loved and gone, in the family lot at Maple Grove cemetery. Her funeral was held at the Universalist church, the church of her love and affiliation on Sunday Sept. 28th, at 2 p.m. Among the many friends present of the years gone, was Rev. F. [Francis] M. Alvord who, as her pastor, had married her, as well as others of her kindred, had also officiated at the funerals of her parents, and, after the sermon by Rev. J. H. Ballou, made a few remarks, in testimony of his high esteem of the deceased, which were greatly appreciated by her bereaved kindred.
